TLC announces tour of Italy

This year not only marks the 120th anniversary of The London Chorus, but our first choir tour since the pandemic. We are thrilled to be taking a group of 80 singers and guests to the stunning settings of Naples, Sorrento and Pompeii between 6th-9th October, with many members extending their trip to make the most of a visit to Italy’s enchanting Campania region.

TLC tours – traditionally taking place every two years – give members the experience of singing a varied programme in new and fascinating venues, as well as the chance to explore local sights, culture and culinary traditions. From an outdoor concert at Table Mountain in Cape Town to an ambassador’s reception just outside Tallinn, we’ve learnt to expect the unexpected! And tours are also a wonderful opportunity for members to build friendships and a sense of camaraderie with singers they might not otherwise have an opportunity to speak to.

Our Italian adventure will begin on Friday 6thOctober with a performance at Christ Church in Naples, otherwise known as ‘the English-speaking church’. The audience, many of whom be may be originally from the UK, will enjoy a lively programme including Rossini, Puccini, Elgar and Handel. On Saturday, the choir will visit beautiful Sorrento for an afternoon concert at the cathedral, last visited by our sister choir – Highgate Choral Society – in 2017. Sunday morning will be an opportunity for members to visit unforgettable Pompeii before returning to Naples to sing an early evening concert at the Duomo di Napoli. And no choir tour would be complete without the final night party, this year taking place at our hotel, the Palazzo Caracciolo Napoli.

Over the past 20 years, we’ve been lucky enough to sing in South Africa, Poland, Estonia and Belgium, with several other visits to Italy (Milan, Lake Garda and Verona). For one member – mentioning no names – two hours on the Eurostar to Bruges was the start of a 19-year journey (and counting!) with The London Chorus. We hope that all the members joining us on tour for the first time will find it an equally memorable and significant experience, and we all look forward to many more choir tours to come!
