Howells ‘Hymnus Paradisi’
Hymnus paradisi was composed under heart-breaking circumstances following the death of the composer’s son, Michael, aged nine. Throughout this deeply moving work, in which the human tragedy of a boy’s death and a father’s grief are enshrined, Howells’ command of choral and orchestral polyphony is masterly.

Elgar ‘The Dream of Gerontius’
The London Choral Society was formed in 1903 for the London premiere of Elgar’s ‘The Dream of Gerontius’. As the choir approached its centenary year it changed its name to The London Chorus and celebrated with a performance of ‘The Dream of Gerontius’ at the Royal Festival Hall. Now the work returns to help the choir celebrate its 120th anniversary season.
