Fauré ‘Requiem’
7:30 pm, Wed 6 November 2024
Cadogan Hall
The London Chorus combines forces with Highgate Choral Society (HCS), along with acclaimed soloists Roderick Williams and Lucy Crowe and the New London Orchestra, conducted by Ronald Corp OBE, to celebrate music by composers whose anniversaries fall in 2024.
It’s 100 years since the death of French composer Gabriel Fauré, whose best-known and loved of his large works, the Requiem, will be performed.
The choirs will also perform the world premiere of Phoenix from the Ashes – a cantata for suffering children by Ronald Corp, in recognition of his 40 years as musical director of HCS. The cantata bears witness to the suffering of children and the possibility of individual recovery and renewal.
The concert will also celebrate the 150th anniversary of Gustav Holst’s birth with a performance of A Somerset Rhapsody, an orchestral piece dedicated to folk song collector Cecil Sharp.
The concert will be approx. 2 hours, with an interval.
