Bach’s Christmas Oratorio is a monumental festive masterpiece composed in 1734. Written as a collection of six cantatas, it recounts the Nativity story across the 12 days of Christmas. It remains a cornerstone of the choral repertoire, brilliantly combining joyful arias with sacred poetry.
The London Chorus is one of London’s most prestigious choirs and performs alongside a stunning line-up of some of the UK’s finest oratorio soloists: Aoife Miskelly, a Northern Irish soprano who performs opera classics and modern premieres worldwide; Helen Charlston, an award-winning mezzo-soprano known for her warm and distinctive tone; tenor Nick Pritchard, who is fast gaining recognition for his performances of the music of Bach; and baritone Dominic Sedgwick, who is establishing himself as an opera and concert singer with unique vocal colour.
Meridian Sinfonia is a dynamic and highly flexible professional ensemble, whose players are highly sought after throughout the UK and Europe as performers, soloists and teachers. For baroque performances, the choice of instruments used is carefully considered to bring the most authentic realisation of sounds the composers would have expected.
We will be performing parts 1, 3, 5 & 6, and it will be sung in German.
The duration will be approximately 2 hours, including interval.
