The London Chorus seeks new Musical Director for September 2025

The London Chorus (TLC), one of the capital’s leading and most historic amateur choirs, has announced the search for a new Musical Director to take over from Ronald Corp OBE. Ron stepped down earlier this year for health reasons and sadly died very recently.

Founded in 1903 as The London Choral Society, TLC has been shaped by several celebrated conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Jane Glover, and, most recently, Ronald Corp. Under Ron’s leadership, the choir has built on its reputation for excellence, performing a challenging and diverse repertoire spanning from Baroque masterpieces to contemporary choral works.

The London Chorus currently has around 90 auditioned singers and rehearses weekly in South Kensington. A typical season includes three or four major concerts, a festive Christmas concert, Come & Sing events that encourage wider participation, and international tours, with Berlin planned for May 2026.

TLC is now seeking an outstanding choral and orchestral conductor with a proven track record of leading amateur choirs. The successful candidate will be passionate about inspiring singers to achieve the highest musical standards, devising engaging and imaginative concert programmes, and developing the choir’s membership, reach, and reputation. Experience of working with professional orchestras and soloists, and a strong network within the wider musical community, will be highly valued.

In addition to conducting rehearsals and performances, the Musical Director will play an integral role in planning future programmes, auditioning and re-auditioning singers, and supporting initiatives such as a new choral scholarship scheme. The position will commence in September 2025.

A full job description for the position of Musical Director can be viewed here.

If you are attracted by what TLC can offer and you feel up to the challenge, please apply directly by submitting:

  • Your CV with full details of your musical qualifications and experience.
  • A letter explaining your motivation for applying and how you would see your role as Musical Director of TLC (no more than 500 words).
  • Programme ideas for two concerts: one that could be performed with piano and/or organ accompaniment and up to two soloists; a second to be performed with a full orchestra plus soloists.
  • Details of two referees who can vouch for your professional musical work. Candidates who are shortlisted will be asked to come for a panel interview during the second half of June. Four candidates will then be invited to take a 40-minute rehearsal with the choir on Tuesday 15 July 2025. The successful candidate will be chosen by TLC’s Council with significant input from the membership.

Applications should arrive no later than 6pm on Friday 6 June 2025. They should be sent, by email, to secretary@londonchorus.org.uk
